Small-town detective Patrick Styvesant, investigating the murder of his young cousin, college student Sally Quine, crosses paths with suspicious locals, homophobic fellow cops, lunatics, lurking strangers, and a psychologist conducting bizarre "dicing" sessions, as more lives unravel in the wake of the brutal crime.
