TV star Jay Silverheels left his mark on the post-war generation. By his portrayal of Tonto, in the Lone Ranger TV series, the Mohawk actor earned a star on Sunset Boulevard, and became the most sought-after Aboriginal actor. Long type-cast as a Hollywood western Indian, Silverheels dreamt of changing the image of Native people. This is a picture of a pioneer who founded his own school to help free young Native actors from stereotypes. Written by Anonymous
