Norm, a confused young man, lives two lives, one in and one out of reality. One night, he witnesses the murder of rock video star Madelaine X and feels guilty, as he did nothing to prevent it. At Madelaine's funeral, he meets a mysterious woman in black. Norm then gets a job at a news stand through a Cindy Lauper like girl called Zelda. They discuss the mystery around Madelaine's death. When he witnesses the murder of the rock star Madelaine X, he feels partially guilty since he only called the police and did not help her. Norm decides to leave home and tells his parents that he is going to write a book. While looking for a job, he meets Zelda and she offers a work in her news stand to him. When Norm meets Jane, he follows her and offers to work as gardener in her house in the country and they fall in love for each other.
