A troubled ACP (Khanna) adopts a young poor child named Deva (Devgan) whose mother and father died. When he grows up, he helps his adopted father as a police officer and ACP to solve various crimes around town to save his job and protect his family. Deva should not only help his father by tracking down a mob or fight gang members, but he has to release his half-brother Karan (Roy) from police custody after he is framed for murder. Written by Honest and upright Assistant Commissioner of Police, Sidarth (Vinod Khanna) has a tough assignment: arresting the son of prominent and influential gangster, Shobhraj (Amrish Puri). Shobhraj uses his influence with the politician in power, Om Gautam (Alok Nath), who does not give in to Shobhraj's pressure, and neither does ACP Sidarth. Sidharth has a adopted son named Deva, (Ajay Devgan), pursuing his education and his love for the beautiful Sharmila (Kajol). Both Sidharth and Deva's lives will face challenges when Sidharth's son, Karan (Ronit Roy), is arrested by the police - charged with murder - a charge that may lead him to the gallows or the electric chair.
