(2000)
This medical series can be considered as the closest Flemish counterpart of "ER". It plays in an academical hospital (which means there is college-level staff training in practice) where the strict and virtually inhuman Luc Gijsbrecht rules the roost, maintaining high quality standards in technical, financial and, most importantly, Hippocratic (i.e. medical ethics) respect, at the cost of extreme demands on his already overstretched staff, which gradually changes over the series' seasons. This adds to the intensity of the usual professional and personal interaction between the doctors, nurses and administration as well as with their home front and some patients. Patients are usually only in a few scenes in a single episode, either checking in, brought in by ambulance or even retrieved and/or treated on site by the hospital's mobile unit. In addition to routine treatments there are quaint ones (such as the bizarre result of ill-advised pranks and horseplay) and various external challenges, such as VIPs or crimes. e84 Written by KGF Vissers
