The Shanghai Hotel

(2008)

剧情

An estimated 9,000 women per year are kidnapped, coerced or deceived into slavery and sexual exploitation. Various regional and international human rights groups agree that the legal framework is in place to combat human trafficking, but more public awareness raising still needs to occur to end slave labor and forced sexual exploitation. The Shanghai Hotel is about Yin Yin; a 22-year-old woman who has paid her own way to the United States under the impression that she will be trained for a computer job. After a harrowing journey on a crowded, disease infested cargo ship; she arrives in New York City to find that her final destination is the Shanghai Hotel, a run down brothel in New York City. She is told that if she makes any trouble or refuses to work, her family at home will be killed. Hope is nearly obliterated from her life until she peels back the tape over her window and sees Carlos, a handsome young law student and bike messenger who brings food to the homeless on the dismal street in front of her eyes. They make contact. She is moved by his compassion, and her unflagging spirit inspires him. Together they maneuver their way out of a ruthless underworld, and the rest are left to spiral downward to their own lonely, tragic ends. e7e Written by Anonymous
