In this story of psychological drama and suspense, a psychiatrist (Naomi Watts), her patient (Nicole Kidman) and the psychiatrist's husband become involved in a love triangle. The psychiatrist believes that her patient's therapy is going nowhere. The patient can't get over the fact that her husband left her for a younger woman and begins an affair with a man she meets in a bar--her psychiatrist's husband.
