Lucas is dying. He sits in his studio, surrounded by the clutter of a life devoted to Art in all its forms, trying to finish a sculpture which he feels will sum up his tormented life. However, his desire is thwarted by one last visit from his Muse, who insists upon Lucas finishing his musical masterpiece. He does so, resplendent, but feels Death upon him.
