剧情： 该传记片记录了著名棒球运动员鲁盖瑞短暂的一生。他曾连续参加了2130场比赛，直到37岁时患ALS病（现已命名为鲁盖瑞氏症）而倒下。该片从鲁盖瑞在纽约的少年时代一直讲述到1939年他的著名的告别演说"最幸运的人”。 　　 1941年棒球界传奇巨星，纽约洋基队的卢·格里格Henry Louis Gehrig因“肌肉萎缩性侧索硬化症”去世，年仅38岁，一年后，塞缪尔·高德温公司将卢的故事拍成了电影《扬基的骄傲》，电影开拍之初，有大量男星渴望扮演这个美国的骄傲，有些甚至愿意放弃片酬，但是高德温选择了要价15万的贾利·古柏，尽管贾利不是左撇子（卢是最出名的左撇子球手），据说贾利甚至都不知道卢的名头。 　　 卢是德国后裔，从小喜欢棒球，而贫寒的父母一心希望他好好念书去做建筑师（他在德国的舅舅就是一个成功的建筑师），卢在发奋读书的同时当然不会放弃棒球，后来他进入哥伦比亚大学并在一次校际比赛中打出本垒打而被人关注。不久卢的母亲患了重病，为了支付医药费，卢于洋基队签约成为职业球员，时年20岁。 　　在度过最初两年的板凳生涯后，1925赛季卢开始崭露头角，1927赛季成为联盟最有价值球员，但他的成绩因为同队的另一位传奇球星贝比·鲁斯的存在而多少有些影响。 　　 卢和贝比是同队战友也是竞争对手，俩人的关系一直不好，在1939年卢宣布退出球场时贝比才给了战友一个纪念意义的拥抱（事实上俩人的性格才是导致分歧的主要原因，尽管都是出身下层，贝比是那种标准意义上的体育明星，傲慢、无礼、沉溺于名利，喜欢作秀，而卢则低调、沉闷、严格保护自己的隐私）。卢要到1934赛季才在单季本垒打数量上超越贝比，但是贝比的走低并不意味着卢一个人的独霸，两个赛季之后，乔·迪马乔（梦露前夫）成为洋基另一个骄傲。 　　 1938赛季卢开始走低，一开始他还仅仅以为自己只是太过疲倦，身体上的衰弱，1939年4月的一场比赛中，卢主动要求乔·迪马乔代替他成为先发。卢的妻子伊莲娜一直认为卢患了脑瘤，但是很多医生会诊后依然无法确诊，直到当年的6月19日（也就是卢36岁生日）那天，他确诊为“肌肉萎缩性侧索硬化症”，3天以后，卢宣布退役，他的号码4号也从此退役。同一年7月4日的国庆节，卢发表了他最著名的演说： 　　 Fans, for the past two weeks you have been reading about a bad break I got. Yet today, I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the earth. I have been to ballparks for seventeen years and I have never received anything but kindness and encouragement from you fans. Look at these grand men. Which of you wouldn't consider it the highlight of his career just to associate with them for even one day? Sure I'm lucky. Who wouldn't have considered it an honor to have known Jacob Ruppert? Also, the builder of baseball's greatest empire, Ed Barrow? To have spent six years with that wonderful little fellow, Miller Huggins? Then to have spent the next nine years with that outstanding leader, that smart student of psychology, the best manager in baseball today, Joe McCarthy? Sure, I'm lucky. When the New York Giants, a team you would give your right arm to beat and vice versa, sends you a gift, that's something. When everybody down to the groundskeepers and those boys in the white coats remember you with trophies, that's something. When you have a father and mother who work all their lives so that you can have an education and build your body, it's a blessing. When you have a wife who has been a tower of strength and shown more courage than you dreamed existed, that's the finest I know. So I close by saying that I might have been given a bad break, but I've got an awful lot to live for. Thank you. 　　 退役后的卢在洋基担任行政工作，后来出任假释官，他最大可能的面对疾病，1941年6月2日晚，卢在家中去世。 　　 卢30岁时与芝加哥一个官员的女儿伊莲娜结婚（电影的翻译好像是商人的女儿），卢去世后伊莲娜在纽约独居，他们没有孩子。 　　 值得一提的是电影中有大量纽约洋基队队员亲自出演自己的角色，其中就包括了贝比·鲁斯。
